USA vs. China. Who is freer?

Let's be honest with ourselves. I spent years fighting and speaking out against the evils in China, only to find out the exact same corruption infested every pore of American society under a different name.

I'm going to use credible links to mainstream media and academic sources - not your usual conspiracy theory garbage.

    Forced Demolition vs. Eminent Domain

How are they any different? We have thousands of cases of this which have been mostly ignored by the American public.

    Forced Sterilization

Doesn't happen in America! Wait, what? 146 women between 2006 and 2010 were forcibly sterilized by the U.S. government. There were also over 60,000 forced sterilizations in America previously.

    Censorship and State Media

Snowden documents have revealed that the CIA routinely censors and controlsAmerican media. And if you try to expose them, you end up imprisoned by theObama administration. It's not just one person.

    Dragnet Spying

No comparison here. We're a lot worse than China in this regard.

    Killing and Imprisoning Dissenters

What? No, you're an idiot, Hulk! Actually, the CIA and the NSA routinely help killpeople who are deemed a "threat" to "national security." It isn't just terrorists they target; U.S. citizens are killed without trial by JSOC.

    Freedom of Speech

Hulk you're getting even more ridiculous? It turns out, we do lack freedom of speech in many forms, and are slowly losing it. We're also not able to talk aboutor discuss certain things without the NSA spying on you.

    Installing Spyware On Your Computer

No contest. The Chinese government wanted to do this a while ago, but the public openly opposed it. The NSA on the other handhas built-in backdoor toolsin windows, global SIM cards, and other computer hardware.

    Intercepting Mail

Does China even do this? If you've searched for any of those keywords listed under "Freedom of Speech," then the NSA intercepts your shipments fromonline retailers, and implants spying devices.

Personally, I feel very sad to see what's happened to my country. I don't know about you, but I felt more free in China. Probably because I was an expat, and not a local. I had the ability to stay or leave, whatever I felt. But here in America? I can't discuss certain things without being hacked. I can't talk about computer security without being spied on. I can't do anything without the NSA recording every single action I take/do.

Which country is freer, and why? Do you have anything to add? Any points to argue? Feel free.

The post will probably be deleted soon for being "too sensitive" (go go freedom of speech), but I'm going to post it anyway.

That this topic even exists shows you the difference between the two. Non-Chinese can think of reasons to criticize their own country, while the lap dogs and Fen Qing can't think for themselves.

I'd like to add to Hulks list.

The 4th amendment is pretty much gone in USA, especially when it comes to your vehicle. Searching of your belongings is very routine now at sports events, even at the High School level. Although they use the excuse of looking for bombs, guns, contraband like booze, etc. its actually for looking for food and soft drinks because they dont want you bringing in stuff. They want you to pay the exuberant prices for the food and such at the event.

Freedom of assembly has been knocked back with "exclusion zones". you can only assemble where and when the people in power want you to.

Freedom of speech has been knocked back with "free speech zones".

Habeas Corpus has been under fire too.

The list goes on. As a postnote, I feel more free outside the USA.

Paid lobbying has corrupted the US to the point where voting is a waist of time. If you want to destroy a democracy do as the US has done, introduce paid lobbying. Lobbyists are paid by big money lobbyists pay off the elected officials etc. So big money gets what it wants. The middle class and the poorer people are left out in the cold.

Why didn't you write anything about China with respect to censorship? Snowden pales in comparison, but of course no-one here knows because the government controls the printing presses and the media.

How convenient for your absurd prognostications.

Sometimes I wonder why the ad hominum is considered a fallacy, This is one of those times.

The USA is freer by most people's yardstick. Freedom of speech, independent judiciary, the right to fair trial, oh yeah and democracy. A Chinese mayor is as far as I'm aware, not elected. A recent BBc documentary followed the previous mayor of Datong for a few months as he worked. He shouted and screamed at his subordinates like a man who is untouchable. I could argue against your points above but i usually find blind anti-americanism or self loathers are fixed in their mindset. the roots of this are usually psychological.

In saying that though China is a lot freer and more moderate than portrayed in the western press. It is an attitude if you don't bother us we won't bother you. I also sometimes wonder if democracies are the best solution. Being free does not mean you will be happy. For instance if you want to build something like a new bridge, in a democracy it ll get passed around from sub committee to sub committee and might not get built. in china this is no problem You want to build a new superspeed railway to shanghai airport. fine. a party member can just snap his fingers. In china anti social behaviour will get dealt with at the end of a police baton, as it should.

Both countries have the same problem Hulk....money. Do your time in congress or whatever, pass a few bills and then retire to a job on the board..

But, today, I would say its a bigger problem in the states than it is here.

I watch "The Young Turks" too much. You can listen to the young turks pod casts in china without a VPN.
